Robert (Bob) Dalton McCargar died on March 15, 2023. Born in Saskatchewan in 1925, he is survived by brother, Ronald and predeceased by his wife, Mary McCargar (Moser) and brother, Delos. He leaves behind his children, Tim (Karen), Cameron, Anne (Dave), and Scott, grandchildren, Marilla, Callie, Conor (Heather), Courtney (Brent), Devan (Madelyn), and great granddaughter, Elina. Fiercely intelligent and hardworking, Bob attended the University of Toronto and earned a degree in Structural Engineering in 1950. He studied diligently to create a good life for his family, although Mary was always happy to point out that she typed his essays for him. Bob put his theoretical knowledge to work on the Kitchener Auditorium while at Dunker Construction in 1950. He decided to strike out on his own in 1955 locally and in Hamilton, before joining Walter Fedy McCargar Hachborn in 1969 and until his retirement in 1985. Bob specialized in building facilities that could withstand cold storage exposures, including Schneider’s Meats in Kitchener, Steinberg’s in Montreal, and Conestoga Cold Storage in Kitchener and Mississauga. Always keen to save time and seize on new opportunities, Bob purchased a Piper Arrow plane in 1978 to fly to different job sites and to the beloved family cottage in Parry Sound. Mary and the family dog accompanied him reluctantly on several eventful flights. In 1986 Bob and his partners incorporated Argyll Structures Inc. a specialized company that constructed buildings of insulated panels. Argyll’s crowning achievement was being awarded a contract to build 36 tower enclosures in the north on the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line). Bob was industrious even in retirement and applied his years of expertise in structural engineering to working on committees at Westmount Golf Course and on various condo boards, likely to the chagrin of other members. He was proud that his daughter, Anne and granddaughter, Callie shared his love of engineering and he happily presented Callie with her iron ring upon her graduation. Bob and Mary enjoyed wintering in Florida and Mississippi and a glass of scotch or red wine after golfing with their many friends. He was dapper when out in public but never one to put on airs, sporting a grey sweatsuit at home. Bob eagerly adopted technology and continued to enjoy learning new things from his iPad and documentaries streaming on Netflix into his late 90s. Bob never wavered when he made up his mind. He and Mary were married for 72 years and spent nearly every day of their last 30 years together. After caring for Mary and surviving her death in August 2022, he was ready to rejoin her. While his family misses them dearly, we know they are both happy to be together again, enjoying a drink side by side in their matching leather chairs, after long, happy lives. There will be a celebration of his life at a future date.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
