Obituary of Carl Martin George Scherer

Passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the age of 90.

Carl was predeceased by his father Carl Scherer, mother Violet Scherer, and step-father Albert Lorentz.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen Scherer, son Martin Scherer (Amie Willoughby), grandchildren Oliver and Elliot, and brother-in-law William “Bill” McNeil (Gaby) and his family. When Carl’s mother remarried, he was welcomed into the Lorentz family, gaining eight step-siblings, all of whom he held dear.

Born March 2, 1935 in Kitchener, Ontario, Carl worked for The Bank of Montreal for 39 years, which took him to Montreal and Markham. It was in Montreal that he met his wife of nearly 47 years. He retired at 56 and moved back to Kitchener. Carl spent his days playing with computers, amateur radio, and keeping on top of financial news. He was a life-long learner and storyteller. In 2018, Carl became a grandfather to twin boys Oliver and Elliot. He enjoyed his visits with them, watching them grow, and playing games and reading with them.

Special thanks to all the Medical Staff at Grand River Hospital for your compassionate care.
