Obituary of Stephen Douglas Hebel
We are mourning the sudden loss of Steve, a beloved husband, father and friend, who passed away too soon on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the age 58. For over 36 years Steve was the loving husband and best friend of Susan (nee Carter) Hebel, and cherished father of Joshua, Rachel and Ethan. He was the caring brother of Chris & Gary (Debbie) and was predeceased by his parents, Janet (nee Shantz) and Edwin “Bud” Hebel (both in 2020).
Steve loved racing, both on the track and on the road with his flashy orange Mustang. He had many fond memories of his dirtbike racing and was especially proud of his part in designing the Player’s Motor Racing team branding. He was an avid Formula 1 fan for over 45 years and nothing made his weekend like watching an F1 race with his family.
Steve was passionate about hockey as he enjoyed his time playing on the ice, in the driveway and on the backyard rinks he built. He never missed his sons’ games and we know he will continue loyally cheering on the Maple Leafs.
Steve never missed the opportunity to be there for the ones he loved. In recent years he took a lot of pride in helping his sons with their landscape businesses as well as spending time with Rachel and her horses. Steve loved family time whether it was making us laugh, catching up over coffee, playing with family pets, or enjoying a well-deserved vacation. His family looked forward to waking up to his delicious Sunday morning breakfasts.
There are many wonderful care partners in our local hospitals, however the family would like to send a special thanks to the phenomenal nurses and therapists at Freeport Hospital. We would also like to thank Dr. DiNicolo and Dr. Benaroia for going above-and-beyond in their thoughtful care of Steve and his family.
Steve’s visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday April 7, 2025 at 4 p.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room. Condolences for the family and donations to Diabetes Canada or the Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic at GRHC may be arranged through www.erbgood.com.
