September 7, 1922 - April 12, 2025

With deep love and gentle sorrow, our family announces the passing of Eva Iola Elliott, who left this world peacefully in her 103rd year.

She was predeceased by her husband Alvin Elliott in 1989, twin daughters Barb Elliott in 2015, and Brenda Duncan in 2017. She is also predeceased by her grandson Scott Duncan, sisters Ruby Litwiller, Ilene Atkinson, and Vera Mank, her brother Clayton Thaler, and her son-in-law Orville Brown. Eva is survived by her daughter Donna Brown (John), grandchildren Steven Brown (Carolyn), Shelley Boyd (Michelle), Kimberley Chiang (Howard), Coleen Richards (Rob), Tami Popp (Dan), and Heather Filsinger, and her great-grandchildren Kelsey, Karly, Griffin, Collyer, Sage, Jacob, Emma-Jane, Lucas, Mandy, Katie, and Mylo.

Born on September 7, 1922, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Eva was the youngest of five children born to Ralph and Violet Thaler. In March 1940, Eva married the love of her life, Alvin Elliott. Together they raised their beloved daughters — Donna, and twins Barb and Brenda — while moving around for Al’s work as a traveling salesman. The family’s many moves, totalling upwards of 13, were always anchored by Eva’s warmth, steadiness, and unwavering love. Eva had a flair for fashion and grace. She worked in bridal shops in London and Kitchener and was an impeccable dresser with her hair always done. She carried herself with elegance and joy. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — never too busy to sit and talk, play a game of crokinole, to listen, to encourage, or to share a meal. An incredible cook, Eva’s home was always full of delicious food, comforting warmth, and welcoming love. She lived independently well into her 90s, a testament to her resilience and strong spirit. A woman of deep faith, Eva was a godly presence in our lives, devoting herself to the church and living each day with gratitude. She often said, “Thank you God for another bonus day,” a phrase that perfectly captured her thankful heart and positive spirit. She adored owls, and now, each time we see one, we are reminded of her gentle wisdom and the love she gave so freely. Eva was kindness personified — sweet to everyone she met, always quick with a smile and a kind word. Eva's legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the faith she modelled, and the love she so generously gave. At the end of every visit, with a soft smile and a warm hug and kiss, Eva would say, “Bye bye for now,” never goodbye — just a gentle promise to meet again. And so, we say the same to her now: Bye bye for now, Grandma. Your love lives on in each of us.

Special thanks to the staff at Parkwood Mennonite Home for their amazing and compassionate care.
