Dear Carolee and family,
I was so sorry to hear that Dana’s earthly time has come to an end. He lived as a marvellous example of what God created us for. His life full of challenges and leading people on great adventures will continue to be a great inspiration to all of us. I still cherish the memories of the fun he and I had playing trombone together in ELI many years ago. I can still picture his smile and full body laugh. It was a privilege to know him.

Dear Carolee, dear Erin, dear Jordan and dear family,
We are very sad that Dana passed away. But he will always be with us. Through Dada's parents Isobel and Barry we learned to know you while we were students at the University of Waterloo between 1993 and 1999. Several times thereafter we met at the Foxes house in Kitchener. It was always great and we feel as part of the family. The same is true for our two children Ansel and Richelle.
We wish you all the strength now and lots of love. We are with you. All the best, Kristin and Mario (Schirmer from Wallisellen, Switzerland)

I was sad to hear of Dana’s diagnosis, and amazed to see how he faced his treatments and continued to live and create. Dana seemed to be constantly on the move—learning new things, trying new interests. He committed and learnt fast. Although he was busy with multiple projects and interests, he was always present and took the time to acknowledge everyone in our group. I think we all felt seen by him.
My sons and I had the privilege of running with, and getting to know, Dana at Tri-City. A lovely scene I have of Dana is his VW pulling into the parking lot at Bechtel Park around 6:10, and “The Foxes” jumping out, gym bags slung over a shoulder or held in hand, as they briskly trot, Dana with wide-mouth smiles, across the soccer field to join the running group. Erin, Jordan and Dana were just in time for the warm-up. Dana would be chuckling as he tossed his bag, not missing a stride, and would be right into some story. Those were good times. What a great life lived. Rest in peace, Dana.

My condolences Carolee, Erin and Jordan and family. I was sorry to learn of Dana’s passing yesterday. Reflecting on the last couple of years after learning about Dana’s diagnosis, I didn’t hesitate to join him and Team Dana for the 2024 Ride to Conquer Cancer. I can still hear Dana’s personal challenge on that ride to get healthy and run the Boston Marathon in 2025. What amazing perseverance to qualify and run Boston. Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2025 was a special time and I look forward to joining Team Dana for 2026. I am sorry that I will be away late next week and unable to attend but my thoughts will be with Dana’s family.
