Obituary of Shirley Audrey Bratherton

April 6, 1935 – November 22, 2025

Passed away peacefully at WRHN – Queen’s Blvd (formerly St. Mary’s Hospital) on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the age of 90.

Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her son Hugh Johnston, step-daughters Maryanne Metzger (Dennis), and Willow Rolfe, grandsons Brandon Johnston, Tyler Johnston, Gareth Maddock, Daniel Steinman, and Riley Metzger (Becky), and her great-grandchildren Izaiah, Gloria, and Grace Metzger.

She was predeceased by her husband Wally Bratherton, and her daughter Maureen Feeney.

Shirley enjoyed being involved with her church and the Waterloo Legion Branch #530, and was a member of the Friends Group from Rockway Centre. She worked for many years at the Royal Bank in Waterloo, and was well-liked at the Highland Place Retirement Home. She also volunteered with the Steelworkers Organization of Active (BFG) Retirees (SOAR).

Special thanks to her friends Fern Barnhardt, Mary and Wally Chalk, and Cecilia Brouwer for looking in on Shirley and helping her out when needed.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 10: 00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery.
