Obituary of Kalliroe Assimacopoulos

Assimacopoulos, Kalliroe “Kally” nee Arvanitis Born October 6th 1936 in Kopanaki Messinias Greece. Kally slipped away quietly at 7:30 am, Tuesday September 27th.in the presence of her beloved husband and children. Her family had been keeping a vigil by her side for many days, she had been waiting patiently for them to turn away so that she could slip by and flutter away. This was the nature of this fiercely independent woman we knew and had come to understand. No tears or sorrow for her, no goodbyes, a simple smile, a twinkle in her eye, a nod to her head or a stroke of her hand was enough for her to let you know you are loved and she was happy, and it was time, because she had stayed long enough and she had somewhere to go, so long, see you later, before she departs she must quickly share with us a word of wisdom and we must listen whether we like it or not we listen, we laugh, we cry, we smile, we stand up straighter and speak clearer and maybe love ourselves a little bit more because she loved us so very much. She graced us with her beauty, her elegance, her love of beautiful things and beautiful people inside and out, she had the wisdom of a scholar. We will miss her deeply and for a very long time. She leaves behind her loving husband Gregory and her two loving and devoted children, son Robert, daughter Bess, her husband John Markou, grandson Gregory, granddaughters Alana and Gabriella, brother Constantinos Arvanitis his wife Giannoula, their children Nitsa Gelakis, George Arvanitis, and Joulie Makrostergios, brother Andre Arvanitis and his wife Victoria, their children George Arvanitis and Maria Hale, a sister in Greece Bessy Bousios, her husband Christos and their children Joseph and Dimitris Bousios. Family of Nikolas Assimakopoulos, Konstantinos Assimakopoulos, Aristides Papadopoulos, Georgios Anagnastopoulos. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family in Greece. Predeceased by her parents George and Lemonitsa Arvanitis and her sister Maria. Kally was actively involved in her church and taught Sunday school and for many years was a member of the church choir. Her strong faith in God gave her great strength and comfort. She believed that death continued life in an alternate way and was not afraid of death. May her memory be eternal. “What a caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly” The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Ruth Auber, Director of Nursing at The Village of University Gates and all the staff for their kindness as well as Gorana, Christine and Lorena who cared for mom. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm with Trisagion at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 527 Bridgeport Road E., Kitchener on Friday, September 30 at 10:30 am with Father Konstantine Chatzis officiating.
