Lionel John Bast – known to his friends as LJ

Lionel, our wonderful son, inside and out, moved to heaven on April 19, 2022.  We will miss him so much, it’s difficult to imagine life without him.  He passed away peacefully at his home in Cambridge, Ontario at the age of 53.

His smiles, laughter, and wonderful conversations will be missed by his father, Melvin Bast and his wife Catherine of Leamington, his cherished sister Rachel Bast of Cambridge, his stepbrother Brent Halstead and his wife Michelle of Cambridge, and four stepbrothers and two stepsisters.  He will be missed by his aunt Barbara Bast and her husband Jim of St. Jacobs and his cousin Aaron Bast and his wife Natalie of Kitchener.  Lionel is predeceased by his mother, Ruth Halstead (2017) and stepfather Ronald Halstead (2020).  He will also, never be forgotten by his many, many friends who remember him as one of the most thoughtful and caring persons.

Lionel was born in Kitchener on the 5th day of April 1969.  He attended Cameron Heights Collegiate where he was a Student Custodian and graduated with his Ontario Secondary School Diploma in 1987.  He worked as a Customer Service Rep for two years at Budget Rent-A-Car, until in 1989 he was employed by PepsiCo (Hostess Frito-Lay) as a Warehouse and Shipping Technician where he worked for 33 years until the present.

LJ, as he is known by his friends, will always be remembered as someone who put others first and went out of his way to ensure that everyone was made comfortable and accepted.  He was a gentle, caring and kind gentleman at all times with a remarkable sense of humor. His love of music and concerts over the years found him and his friends taking many road trips and adventures together across the U.S.  During his long-time employment at PepsiCo, LJ was known for his kindness and loyalty.

The Celebration of Lionel’s Life will be held June 18th at 2 pm at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo.  Reception will follow the service in the Fireside Reception Room of the Funeral Home.

In memory of Lionel, donations to the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo & Stratford-Perth would be appreciated and may be arranged through the funeral home www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
