Obituary of John Henry Doerr

John passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday February 10th, 2023, due to complications of a stroke in St. Mary’s Hospital in his 91st year. 

 

Beloved husband to Margaret for 66 years. He will be dearly missed by his three children, Debora (David) Yaremy, David (Joanne) Doerr and Damon (Holly) Doerr. Twelve grandchildren Derek, Michelle, Colin, Nicole Yaremy, Kristopher, Michael, Connor, Sarah, Emma, Cassidy Doerr, Alyssa, and Jordan Doerr. Six great grandchildren James, Dylen, Ariel, Logan, Lilianna, Mateo and one on the way.  Brother to Betty Watson, Marjorie (Joe) Miller, brother-in-law to Shirley Henry, Marilyn (Abbie) Desjardins, Carl Whetham, and James Law.  John will be remembered by the Whetham families in Minto Township.

Predeceased by his parents Margaret and Wilfred Doerr, sisters Isabelle Wuergler and Shirley Law also brothers-in-law, Ray McEwin, Alan Blaine, Murray Henry, and Doug Watson.

John joined the Kitchener Fire Department in 1961, retiring in 1992 as a Captain.  As a lifelong Luthier he built, played and repaired musical instruments. He was a member of the Greenwood Hill band, they performed bluegrass and gospel music at Long-term Care Facilities, churches, and festivals.  John enjoyed spending time with his family at the cottage in Colpoy’s Bay, that he built with his family in 1968.

Special thanks to the hospital staff, who cared for John at Grand River Stroke unit, Hamilton General Hospital, Freeport Rehabilitation, Conestoga Lodge, and St Mary’s Hospital 5th and 7th floors.

Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
