Obituary of Philip Lorimer Rason

Passed away peacefully at his residence with Carole by his side on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the age of 90.

Beloved husband of Carole (nee McIntyre) Rason. Father of Cam and Sheila.

He was predeceased by his parents Vera (Gies) and Chester Rason, his daughter-in-infancy Nora, and Pamela Gail in 2023.

Early education took place at the Kitchener Collegiate Institute and Waterloo College (now WLU). As a young lad, Phil spent many happy hours at Taylor-Statten. His children also enjoyed this camp experience, and years later, he and daughter Sheila journeyed there to reminisce. Memories of Muskoka lived large in his life. After being introduced to the stock market by his Grandmother Gies at age 7, his life revolved around the market to his final hours. Many friends appreciate his financial acumen, always shared so generously and rarely faulty. In later years, Phil watched the tickertape constantly, simultaneously tuned in to easy listening for the relaxation it provided.

Phil started at Waterloo Trust & Savings in 1957. He joined Dominion Security as a Partner, becoming Vice President until retiring in 1999. He was a member of Westmount Golf & Country Club and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the Kitchener Rotary Club, former Director of the K-W Record, and former Trustee of Dare Foods. Many years were spent on the Board of St. Andrew’s. He served as a member of the Board of Governors of Wilfrid Laurier University and was elected to the Kitchener-Waterloo School Board for a term.

Phil enjoyed travelling and together with Carole travelled the world. Phil, always the jokester famously entertained at every opportunity, being expert at both playing out and telling stories that were always the life of the party. -Phil cherished his friends, especially his bridge club. He regularly invited them to his cottage – no secrets shared.

Phil lived a long, unique and accomplished life. Many will mourn his passing.

Condolences for the family or donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com.

Friends and relatives are invited to Phil’s Celebration of Life at the Westmount Golf & Country Club, 50 Inverness Drive, Kitchener on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
