Last Sunday, my husband, Aubrey and I were delighted that Krista had stopped by in the neighbourhood, where the family had lived for many years. We were saddened to hear about Dave’s suffering and his passing. Living on Notley Place is like a small commmunity; dead end street at the bottom of a hill. The “kids” at that time all enjoyed each others company.
When Dave was at the Mennonite Centre, my mother who lived in the area, volunteered in the gift shop at the Centre.
Dave certainly lived a full life offering helpful hands whenever necessary. Aubrey and I extend condolences to the Bechtel Family. Keep all fond memories close to your heart. They never fade.
In Sympathy,
Betty and Aubrey Hicks

Dear Krista and the entire Bechtel and Alexander Families - I am so sorry for your loss and can't imagine how difficult this must be for all of you. Hopefully you can take some solace in knowing that he is no longer in pain and the fact that you had all those years together as a happy family. Not everyone can say that. Thinking of all of you and sending warm wishes. Love Susan Paterson

I had the privilege of know Dave through volunteering, specifically with Lang's. Dave was kind hearted and truly knew how to put others first. I am sure his family will miss him but so will the community as Dave had a substantial impact on many people. RIP.

I was very sorry to hear about David's passing. I sat on the Lang's Board for several years with Dave and we became friends and colleagues. Dave was a great voice of reason on the board. Sometimes when I spoke I would make sure to find him in the room and if he was nodding along I knew I was on the right track. David would tease me that "he could always hear me" while others were more quiet. I enjoyed his sense of fun and he was certainly a favourite of mine to work with.

My sincere sympathy goes to you, Muriel, Greg, Krista, Dylan and Sadie. You had a wonderful caring husband, father and grandfather.
I grew up with David since my mother and his father were brother and sister. His family and mine did many things together as we were growing up -fishing in the Nith River, going on picnic excursions - e.g. going up Sandhill to the tower for a picnic etc.
As we got older, David and I took our grandfather to visit his sister in Ohio.
When my wife of 33 years passed in 2005, I visited you, Muriel and David. You were very caring and supportive.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you deal with your loss of a wonderful person.

Dear Muriel & family,
My condolences on Dave’s passing. It has been many years since I worked with Dave at SCOC, but I have very fond memories of those times. Dave lived his faith. I admired his kindness, integrity, knowledge and ability to treat everyone with equality and respect. In the ensuing years it was always a pleasure to see both Dave and you, Muriel.
May you find comfort in knowing that he had a very positive impact on many people. He will be missed.

Muriel, my heart aches for you and your family, over the loss of a truly wonderful husband and father. Dave and I grew up together within our church family at Hagey’s and Preston Mennonite Church. We served together as president and vice-president of our MYO group. He was always a kind and caring person, even as.a small boy. I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers, as you journey through this time of grief. May God wrap you in love and comfort.
