Passed away at The Village at University Gates LTC, Waterloo on Thursday, October 31, 2024, age 90. Beloved husband and best friend of Rose Babcock (nee Toffan) married for a wonderful 70 years.
Loving father of Derek (Patricia) Babcock, Brian Babcock, Beverley Babcock (Patrick Friday). Cherished grandfather of Wesley Babcock, Meredith (James) Dubroy, Kara Babcock, Bradley Babcock, Graham (Alison) Friday, and Cameron Friday; great-grandchildren Jaxon Dubroy and James Friday. Will be fondly remembered by his sisters Betty (Mike) Wright and Barbara Smith.
Predeceased by his parents Bessie (nee Ridler) and Al Babcock and three siblings.
Ron retired in 1989 as Clinic Manager after working for 28 years at the Port Arthur Clinic, Thunder Bay. Past President of the Ontario Clinic Managers Association, 1973 – 1974. He was a longtime member and former president of the Fort William Curling Club and a longtime member of the Port Arthur Country Club.
Rose and Ron formed many friendships during their years together and Ron’s gentle nature enhanced those relationships. They spent 25 years in Arizona enjoying their retirement as snowbirds. The remainder of the year they were at their cottage at West Loon Lake outside Thunder Bay. A special memory is travelling to England to visit their daughter and family; followed by further travel in Europe.
Since 1996, Rose and Ron established their life in Waterloo and enjoyed friends and family in the Waterloo Region. Ron kept busy with his daily walks, playing bridge, watching sports, growing great tomatoes, being a Mr. Fixit around the house and watching his grandchildren pursue their activities.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Sunnyside Home (Buttonworks) and University Gates Long Term Care (Hagey) who assisted Ron in his journey with dementia.
