My uncle was wonderful. I cherish all the memories I have with him. Though I believe he is now in Heaven, I will continue to miss him as long as I’m alive on earth. Until we meet again.

Dr. Saunders was a great pastor and, perhaps more importantly, a wonderful human being. He was a very compassionate person and certainly shared God's grace as he reached out to everyone with whom he came in contact. Our church services were very formal. He always wore a gown and every morning service started precisely at 11:00. Every part of the service in the bulletin was preceded by the word "THE" - THE OPENING PRAYER, THE TITHES AND OFFERINGS etc.
Merv and his wife, Helen, were very gifted musicians. Merv played the carillon daily at the Legislative Building for a couple of years. Our congregation was richly blessed by his ministry. He now rests in peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Dear Helen, Sonya, Michele, and Lianne:
So sorry to hear the news that we have lost Merv. Please know that you have been very much in my thoughts the last few days, and I hope that you find comfort in the wonderful life and ministry he had. My last memory of him is a very vibrant one; I came and stayed with him in the Kanata apartment while you, Helen, went for an appointment, and he was having a good day. This afforded us the opportunity for a long chat over lunch, and he gave me an enthusiastic demo of his electronic piano. Best wishes to all in the family.

Helen and Family,
I recall the years Merv and I served sister churches in London, Ontario. My wife and I especially appreciated the clergy couple Christmas gatherings the two of you hosted at First Baptist Church.
I will never forget the time Merv read Philippians 2:3 and had pastors go around the room, taking each others hand, looking eye to eye and saying, "You are a better man than I." (Lesson in Humility 101)
May the Lord be your comfort and strength always.

I had the good fortune of being guided by Merv at Governing Board meetings of The Canadian Council of Churches. Merv was incredibly caring and attentive to the spirit in the room, often spoke a word of encouragement, and accompanied our songs and prayers on the piano. It was a pleasure to know and work with him in that way.

Dear Helen & Family, although my husband, Stan, knew Merv through contact within the CBOQ family, my connection began in late 1950's and or early 1960's. I was a member of a Ladies Chorale which was led by Merv...and you, Helen, I believe played for us. That was a special group and, under Merv's leadership, I thought we were really good...a highlight of my life before I attended Toronto Bible School and met my future husband, Stan Hibbins. Stan passed away in 2010 so I'm sending special heartfelt sympathy to you, Helen, and your family.
At this time, may you know the trustworthiness of God, our Loving Heavenly Father; the strength and faithfulness of our Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ and the ever present comfort and encouragement of the Holy Spirit.
Sincere Christian Love,
Win Hibbins (nee Gowling)

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Dr. Mervin Saunders, and my sympathies are extended to his family, friends, and the hundreds - thousands - of people he touched during his long and faithful ministry for the Lord. Merv lived a life of integrity, joy, and love. Each time I talked with him, I was encouraged by his perception and ability to focus on the issues at hand. He will be missed by many people in many places. It's a joy to realize that those who live and work in God's Kingdom are strengthened day by day through the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Love and prayers, David Phillips

I so enjoyed working with Merv while I was on staff at CBOQ. He always came with a spirit of affirmation and encouragement. We had some wonderful conversations as we tried to solve the problem of the moment, the solution to the worship wars or the ills of the greater world. What a wonderful person!
