Obituary of Kurt Wachtveitl

Passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 89 years.

 

Kurt is survived by his loving wife Wilhelmina “Willy” Wachtveitl of 67 years, his daughter Brenda (Pat) Hepditch, his son Gordon (Mary Lou) Wachtveitl, grandchildren Kurt (Katie) Hepditch, Leslie Hepditch, Tyler Wachtveitl and Kaley Wachtveitl as well as his great grandchildren Finnley, Hayden and Wendel Hepditch.

 

Kurt’s primary career was with Canada Trust for over 26 years. In 1962, Kurt joined Waterloo County Rescue where he enjoyed participating in Rescue Competitions all over Canada and the USA where they won first place in Miami Florida in 1964. He became a member of St. John Ambulance in 1964, volunteering at many community events, became an instructor in First Aid then Brigade Superintendent, received Priory Vote of Thanks and was installed as Officer of the Order of St. John.  He was a member of the Kitchener Waterloo Civitan Club for over 20 years and joined the Waterloo Central Railway as a volunteer in 2004 learning all aspects of railroading including driving the diesel engine.  He held the position of Conductor for several years and took pride alongside his wife arranging the annual Santa Trains for several years. In 2017 Kurt joined and enjoyed his time with the Retired Business and Professional Men’s Club. 

 

Special thanks are extended by the family to Dr. Boris for the excellent care shown to Kurt over the last few years.

 

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm.  The funeral service to celebrate Kurt’s life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 3:00 pm followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room. Cremation will have taken place, and a private family interment will be held at Memory Gardens, Breslau.

 

In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the Heart and Stroke Association or to St. Mary’s Hospital may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com
