Obituary of Alexander McKinlay Stewart
Alexander McKinlay Stewart passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 75. He was known as Alex to his friends, but as Sandy to his family.
Sandy was the beloved brother of James Kirkpatrick Stewart and his wife, Charity Stewart, who will miss him deeply. His absence from their lives will be greatly felt by other members of his family and by his friends, for he was a favourite uncle to Andrew, Kieran, and Wangechi, and cherished friend to Lucy Cecchetto, Renza Cecchetto, and Susan Mwangi.
Sandy was predeceased by his parents, James Alexander Stewart and Margaret Anne Stewart (née McKinlay), who lived for years in Waterloo.
Sandy was a man of patience, kindness, and generosity, a listener who took a genuine interest in those close to him. He was always there, if he was needed. Sandy was well read, enjoyed following local hockey, and appreciated good food and company. He bore stoically, without complaint, the challenges to his health that came upon him late in life. He was a good man. Sandy will live on in the affections and memory of those close to him, who loved him and now feel his loss.
Our special thanks go to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s General Hospital, especially in the Chest Unit, for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place, and a Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
